Could the Motorola Xoom truly be an iPad killer? The question has been on the minds of many tech enthusiasts (us included!). It has the potential to be just that; says Verizon’s Business Sales manager for the Dakotas and Minnesota, Eric Martinson. I had the opportunity to interview my old friend and colleague tonight to hear his impressions of the Xoom, its impact on the business world, and partnership with Verizon.
Eric is in the enviable position of trying gadgets like Xoom before they reach the general public. He has been impressed by its speed, intuitiveness, and market potential. Eric described the Xoom is a “blank slate” with the potential to write custom apps for business and other markets. (Calling all Honeycomb developers!)
Eric is in daily contact with companies in many industries, including manufacturing and health care. These companies, Eric says, will begin to realize new ways that this portable technology can improve their business. Doctors will save time and have better access to patient health information. Manufacturers will keep closer tabs on their inventory in real time.
The Xoom is perfectly positioned to be the right technology for businesses. With the Honeycomb and Android communities driving development, new apps for business and personal use will increase the functionality of Xoom. This will help Xoom maintain its image of individuality – the tablet will be truly yours to change and customize to fit your needs.
“Pretty cool” – those were Eric’s first words to describe the Xoom. No doubt that tomorrow, Feb 24, the rest of the world will echo his remarks as the general public has its first taste of Xoom.
What are your thoughts? Post your reactions to Xoom and any videos you have unboxing tomorrow!
